What a Sweet Love Story!

There are some clients that I feel like our meeting and working together was far more than just by chance…that God truly was a part of it, and this sweet couple definitely falls into that category!  I was blessed to meet Kerry at a Panera and talk about their sweet love story.

There’s a fun story …and you will see how it all plays in their images and wedding as you scroll down.
Roy’s wife died in March of 2014 and he had a difficult time going back to his church after awhile as she sang with the praise team, some not knowing what to say to him, etc. He decided to visit other churches for awhile to see if this would pass. One Sunday he visited Duke Memorial United Methodist where Pastor Heather Rodrigues was preaching a series on Lust. All kinds of lust. She mentioned that a new Red Light District had opened on Hillsborough Rd and that cars were lining up to get a “sampling”.

At this point she brings out a newly made box of Krispy Kreme doughnuts and starts to eat one as she continues her sermon. She also passes the box around for those in front to sample the doughnuts.

At the end of the sermon, Roy went out front to meet her and explain why he was visiting and she was very compassionate with him and offered to pray with him right there. He did as he normally would and bowed his head and closed his eyes at which time Heather said, “I like open eye prayer.”

On their second date,  Roy told Kerry about this incident and wanted to know if I might know the Senior Pastor at this church. She said she knew Heather Rodrigues, but she didn’t know if she was the Sr. Pastor. He said that was the Pastor he met. He wanted to know if the open eye prayer was a Methodist “thing” and she told him no, but it was definitely a Heather kind of thing.

Heather and Kerry were in the same graduating class at Duke Divinity School. She contacted her after this date to relay this information about her meeting with Roy to see if she remembered him and she did. Roy calls her our doughnut preacher. We have spent some time with she and her husband and at this church since then and felt it was the best place to start our married life together.

As a result, they thought it would be fun to have Krispy Kreme’s as their favor.

I love sweet stories like that…love getting know what are some of the stories behind the love that is shown.  This was the sweetest ceremony, a sweet song sang by a mens quartet that left not a dry eye in the place, including this photographer.  The bride serving communion to her guest and the sweet procession with her daughters giving her away to a teary eyed Roy!  Kerry and Roy, thank you so much for allowing me to capture your special day!  I was blessed to meet you and blessed by your story!
Thanks so much to Heather Price for second shooting with me!
