1. Lower the pressure.
It doesn’t have to be the “perfect” senior year. There will be missed opportunities, disappointments, and changes of plans. Don’t let the pursuit of perfect steal the joy of what’s right in front of you.
2. Ask more questions.
Not just “How was school?” Ask about their dreams, what they’re nervous about, what they’re excited for, and what keeps them up at night. These conversations matter.
3. Protect your family time.
The calendar will fill itself with sports, work, friends, and college plans. Fight for dinner together, a weekend away, or even an ice cream run. Time together is about to look very different.
4. Give them roots… and wings.
This is the year to gradually let them make decisions, solve problems, and become who they’re meant to be. It’s hard, but that’s exactly what you’ve been preparing them for all along.
And one more thing…
Don’t spend so much time mourning the ending that you miss the beauty of the middle. There are still laughs around the dinner table, late-night talks, rides in the car, and memories waiting to be made.
You’ve got one senior year. Don’t just survive it—be present for it. 🤍
