I have to say, I’ve been dying to share this session…it has to be one of my all-time favorites, although, her sisters (both of them) maternity photography sessions were amazing. You can see them both here and here! This sweet couple came to the studio for their beautiful maternity pictures and we started with hair and make up (which is complimentary with all our maternity sessions). During this time I get to know them better and hear about the upcoming arrival of baby girl (in June). It was a beautiful morning here in Burlington NC, (the morning of those horrible storms) but we got the session in just in time!
I’m getting ready to teach a workshop (Belly & Baby) where we’ll focus on maternity pictures and I share there why I love them so much…I get to share how I find my locations and how I work with my couple to style their session, but for those of you who can’t attend…here are a few tips!
- Don’t be afraid of locations! What do I mean by that…I mean, if you see a location that you think might work, but that you wonder if your client will think you are crazy if you bring them there…don’t stress and step out and take them there! You are the professional, you are the one with the eye! This location in Burlington was on the side of the road, behind an insurance office, and it was simply dreamy!
- Create connection! Your couple has to be close in order for the pictures to work. If they are stiff and uncomfortable with being close…it will show in their maternity pictures! So its your job, to help them to be comfortable and to take away any nerves! For so many of them, this is the first time since their wedding that they have had professional pictures taken, so you have to guide them!
- Have a plan! Know ahead of time what their maternity session will look like, what the end result will be! If you don’t plan it, it will show in their images…it will look hodge podge and not consistent!
- Do whatever you can do to make mom feel amazing! We make sure hair and makeup are included (here it’s by the fabulous Adrianne Coggins of The Styling Loft) We have a wardrobe that our moms can choose from and we want them to feel as beautiful as they ever have…and most do! My favorite is when dad is looking at her while we are shooting just mom…and he is in heaven and more in love with her than ever! JOB DONE!
So you will see from this beautiful session that I think we accomplished all of the above!
