Over the next week I’m going to be giving you all the beach knowledge I can about preparing for a beach session, my favorite beaches, and why, what to wear and trends for this year and how you can take better pictures of your kids and family on the beach.
A few weeks ago I got an email from another photographer who was working on her tips for beach sessions (she’s not in NC) and she asked me, what would be your top 3 tips you would give one of your family’s. I thought those would be great to share with you too!
- If you have younger children (ones who will be actively playing on the beach) then try to book your session earlier in the week if we have availability. As the week goes on, kids play harder and harder and are more exhausted and rightfully so. It’s hard work digging and wave crashing. I have found in my 10 years of capturing kiddos…that a well rested child is a happy child!
- Full tummies! It’s hard because often we are photographing right at dinner time (because that is when the light is the best) so if you can, do your best to make sure bellies are full…this also goes for dad too. 🙂
- Bring something to tie hair back….(thankfully this beach session below wind wasn’t a horrible issue) but in so many, the wind blows strong and the beautiful locks are all over faces. But you want to see your family’s faces, so bring a headband or a clip to use if we have to.
I was absolutely ecstatic to kick off the 2016 beach season with this adorable family! I met them at beautiful Topsail Beach (one of my favorite beaches to photograph at) and the weather still had a bit of a nip in the air but the breeze was low and the sun was shining.
I loved Mom’s choice of outfits (something that all my clients ask about first…what to wear to their beach session) she did a great job of giving each person individuality, but also coordinating. And blues and creams look so pretty!
