Lowes Vintage Instrament Company: Burlington NC

One of the things that I love about having my studio in Downtown Burlington is being part of a community!  When I moved into my studio several years ago, our downtown was so barren, but there was such hope and excitement for what the future held.  Over the past few years we have had so many wonderful small businesses make their home in downtown and I have loved getting to know my “neighbors” and hearing their stories and what their goals are, who their customers are and how we can work together to help grow each others business.

There are so many great things happening…and over the next month or so, I’m going to do a photo tour to highlight some of the businesses (not all store fronts) and give you a sense of why you need to come on down and see what’s going on.

In addition there are some awesome events happening in the next few months

A few months ago, Will from Lowes Vintage Music Company asked me if I would photograph their shop for a publication that they are going to be a part of.  I was thrilled!  Not only is it a work of art and craftsmanship when you walk through the doors, but the guys there are just fun and very knowledgable about what they do best.  Here’s some of their story!

How long have you been in business?  Our business started in 2004, but we opened our storefront location after I graduated from NC State almost a year ago. Before that we ran it out of our house under a different name.

What’s your vision for your shop? We want to be one the premier vintage instrument shops where people can come have fun and can count on a top notch experience buying or selling. All of this is supposed to be fun, but some of our competitors don’t like people “touching” the inventory and can be plain rude. We pride ourselves on a relaxed atmosphere and unparalleled customer service!

What brought you to Burlington? I grew up in Burlington, and we really wanted an old building we could restore that would fit the “vibe” of what we’re doing. We feel like we got in on the ground floor of big things that are coming to downtown! The area is definitely in the beginning stages of a revitalization.

Tell us about the team? The team consists of Will Lowe, co-founder and General Manager, who is responsible for day-to-day operations, sales, all web-related stuff, marketing, and customer service (among other things). Ed Lowe, the owner of Lowe Vintage, is responsible for keeping the books, and can be seen helping Will out with his many responsibilities. He’s great with customers too! Finally, David Sheppard is our in-house luthier (repair guy) who handles all repair, restoration, set up, and conversion work on the store’s inventory as well as customer jobs.
